Living "Smart"
We are going through tough time's rights now and certain decisions and practices
in our lives need to be examined. Cutting back on our indulgences and thrifty spending
is inevitable. To pass up on our immediate desires is admirable, but to actually
keep the money in the bank we need to be inventive to produce future cost saving
opportunities.

One of the most recurring expenditures we have today that is constantly taking money
out of our wallet is filling up our personal vehicles. The Grand Wagoneer I owned
for years swindled every dollar I set aside for gasoline, due to the fact that it
averaged fourteen miles per gallon. So, I thought to myself how can save some money
at the pump? I could walk to the store, ride my bike, or take the bus more often;
however the gas guzzler would still sit in my driveway.
Back in March 2008 I was determined to make a change to stop the fleecing of my
wallet at the pump. I needed an alternative, so I decided to "smarten up" and make
a long term, cost saving expenditure on a Smart Car. After reading and hearing about
the little car from a few friends my next move was to try one out. Well to tell
you the truth, even before I drove the Smart Car I knew I was going to buy it. The
car salesman didn't have to smooth talk me into making the purchase because any
vehicle that costs $20 to fill up is attractive enough these days, not to mention
the car averages forty miles per gallon!
Ever since I purchased the Smart Car I have recognized that my wallet is less vulnerable
to one variable that I cannot control. I personally believe thrifty spending is
a positive contagion that carries over to all facets of one's life. At first frugality
might start with a "smart" purchase at the grocery store and then may lead to "smart"
long term purchases such as, a fuel efficient vehicle, or an eco-friendly home.
We all can make individual decisions that can save us money down road; as our world
becomes more open to variables we have never imagined, we must examine our own lives
to see where change or persistence is needed.
