The Health Symposium with Dr. Oscar Lovelace and the National Lt. Governors Association will address the burden of heart disease in South Carolina.

Nearly 1 in every 3 people in the United States has cardiovascular disease. More people die each day of heart related disease than die of cancer, HIV/AIDS, and accidents combined. Yet, many of the greatest cardiovascular risk factors can be controlled by your personal choices.

We must help educate South Carolinians to live healthier lives.

A Lipid Panel will be conducted by Palmetto Baptist Hospital and will last from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

The Office on Aging, Palmetto Baptist Hospital, and Dr. Oscar Lovelace will review the findings and make recommendations on how South Carolina’s seniors can prevent cardiovascular diseases.

I believe agencies dealing with senior needs to be under one agency because preventative information will be easier to obtain, preventive care would be properly funded, and the findings such as lipid panel testing won’t be lost or fragmented among numerous agencies. Furthermore, budget cutting in the recession provides the state an opportunity to consolidate services for the elderly and disabled now are spread across several agencies.
